Jean-Mathieu D’Amour and Kim Belzile closely monitor the production, processing, and marketing of their farmer’s milk—whole, pasteurized, non-homogenized… shake well!
Cream floats to the top of Ferme D’Amour’s milk, which is enriched with omega-3 fatty acids from the flax eaten by its 52 cows (which makes it arguably healthier). It is packaged in attractive bottles, and traceability is ensured by the words “Produit du Bas-Saint-Laurent” (a Bas-Saint-Laurent product) on its label.
The brand name, Óra, comes from the Ancient Greek “moment.” All it took was to add Jean-Mathieu’s last name to create a strong slogan for anyone pouring themselves a glass of milk: a “moment d’amour”—a moment of love!
The bottle, made from recycled plastic, is reminiscent of glass quart jugs of the past, speaking to the artisanal nature of the product, which is an asset that allows it to stand out on grocery store shelves.
Those who are older feel as though they are tasting the milk of their youth. Those who are younger appreciate the 3.8% milk fat content for the development of their young children.
Located in Rivière-du-Loup, the business markets its products in about forty points of sale between Québec and Rimouski.
