The Défi Vélo has raised $1 million since its inaugural edition in 2014
SAINT-JACQUES, QC, August 25, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ – The sixth annual Défi Vélo La Coop managed to raise $305,000 for the Centraide of Lanaudière, Adapte-Toit Foundation , and Breakfast Club of Canada (Lanaudière), as well as for two provincial initiatives, the Fondation de BAnQ and Au cœur des familles agricoles. Organized jointly with Novago Coopérative, the 2019 Défi Vélo owes its success to the dedication of some 250 volunteer participants, including 160 cyclists. The proceeds from the event will be distributed equally between each supported organization.
La Coop fédérée’s CEO, Gaétan Desroches, expressed great pride in the outcome of this sixth annual Défi, held for the first time in Lanaudière, as well as joy for the organizations that will benefit from it. “The event’s success is a testament to the values of cooperation and solidarity espoused by the employees of La Coop fédérée and its affiliated cooperatives,” said Desroches following the 2019 Défi Vélo.
For this sixth edition, La Coop fédérée was supported by Novago Coopérative, represented by its Executive Director, Dany Côté, and his team, who rallied to make the 2019 Défi Vélo a success. “To achieve our goals, we didn’t hesitate to double down and hold additional fundraising activities alongside the main event, and we must acknowledge the tireless work of the volunteers,” stressed Côté.
This sixth annual Défi Vélo La Coop was also made possible by the participation of key partners such as Desjardins, Fasken, and QSL.
“Since its inauguration in 2014, the Défi Vélo has raised nearly $1 million and supported 22 organizations in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Centre-du-Québec, Chaudières-Appalaches, Mauricie, Montérégie, and now Lanaudière,” said Ghislain Gervais, President of La Coop fédérée, who also emphasized the warm welcome extended by the Municipality of Saint-Jacques, represented by Mayor Josyanne Forest.
